Drivers to remain patient
A number of traffic changes have been implemented along the highway in the last week as work gets underway on the final stages of the Princes Highway duplication. Mr Chester said travel times between Traralgon and Sale had increased and he encouraged all drivers to remain patient.
Changed road conditions
Mr Chester said, "All motorists - particularly people who are familiar with the highway but have not driven the section recently - may be caught out by the changed traffic conditions around Kilmany, you will need to allow extra time for your journey while the reduced speed limits are in place."
Safer and more efficient highway
Mr Darren also said, "It is important that everyone observes speed limits around the worksites and pay close attention to lane markings on the new sections of road for the safety of workers and all road users." Mr Chester said the Princes Highway duplication works would be ongoing for the next three years. "The inconvenience will be worth it when we have a safer and more efficient highway route in the future."
Funding on highway duplication
A further $253 million was committed to the Princes Highway duplication, on top of the $260 million already invested in the first two stages which included the duplication of nine sections of the highway. The Federal Government is funding 80 per cent of the project, with 20 per cent coming from the Victorian Government.
