Phillip Island Recreation Reserve has master plan adopted to meet future sporting and recreation needs of the community
The Master Plan outlines the future growth of the new Phillip Island Recreation Reserve, addressing sports, recreation, and public spaces at 'Hilton Chadwick Reserve' and nearby locations.
After an extensive consultation period, council is excited to announce the adoption of the Phillip Island Recreation Reserve Master Plan. This plan is a long-term vision for 32ha of public open space at the corner of Ventnor Road and Phillip Island Road, Cowes.
The Master Plan will enhance the health and well-being of both the local community and visitors by providing essential recreational and aquatic facilities to Phillip Island and its surroundings
Recreation significant upgrade
The master plan demonstrates how the site will meet the current and future sporting and recreation needs of Phillip Island and surrounding communities. The master plan provides provisions for:
- Aquatic and leisure facility
- Football and cricket ovals
- Soccer pitches
- Multipurpose buildings and flexible-use sports fields
- Netball and tennis courts
- Athletics facilities
- Skate park and playspaces
- Fenced off-leash dog park
- Bushland areas with walking paths and picnic facilities
This project received a significant response from our local community throughout the consultation period. With over 2,400 people engaging through councils website and social media posts reaching over 30,000 people. This consultation is the largest engagement experienced on Engage Bass Coast.
Community-driven vision
Bass Coast Mayor Michael Whelan said the Phillip Island community was integral in shaping ideas for future sporting and recreation options at Reserve. "The Phillip Island Recreation Reserve Master Plan paves the way to ensure the community will have access to quality recreation facilities for generations to come."
"Importantly, the community has contributed to the Phillip Island Recreation Reserve Master Plan through our extensive consultation, offering valuable suggestions about recreational, sporting and aquatic priorities for what will be an exciting sporting hub. The plan makes provision for active and passive spaces and addresses new opportunities to meet growing demand for sports, including softball, hockey, rugby and archery," Cr Whelan said.
Council also developed a high-level costing and implementation plan. This plan will support funding advocacy and guide project implementation. For more information about the project and consultation feedback head to Phillip Island Recreation Reserve Master Plan page.
