Baw Baw Shire Council invites artists to create three murals showing local resilience and recovery in Noojee by 15 June 2023
Baw Baw Shire Council seeks artists to create three inspiring murals in Noojee, celebrating resilience and recovery with a $65,000 fee that is set to end on 15 June 2023.
A creative opportunity is taking shape in one of Baw Baw's most inspiring destinations. Noojee and its surrounding region are renowned for picturesque rainforests, iconic waterfalls and majestic trestle bridge. Over recent years, however, repeated severe weather events have inflicted serious damage on local properties and infrastructure and put untold stress on the proud people that call Noojee their home.
Submit you expressions of interest on the Noojee Resilience Art Project until 15 June, the project is to be undertaken and completed between July and August 2023
Community pride showcased
To honour the resilience of the local community, Baw Baw Shire Council is inviting qualified artists to submit expressions of interest to create three public murals that will complement the local environment and tell Noojee inspiring stories of recovery. A fee of $65,000 is on offer to the successful artist, with expressions of Interest accepted until Thursday 15 June 2023.
"There is no doubt that Noojee has been one of our hardest hit communities in recent years. This project is all about fostering community identity and pride, and creating a centrepiece that will allow community members to reflect on what they've been through together, to celebrate their resilience, and the strength of their relationships,"Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Annemarie McCabe said.
Captivating, harmonious designs
The artwork consists of three murals spread across the Noojee Public Toilets at 22 Bennett Street, the Noojee Public Hall at Henty Street and the Public Toilets at the corner of School Road and Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road.
Proposed designs should be captivating, vibrant and harmoniously blend with the surrounding landscape, appealing to locals and visitors alike. For more details, and to submit an expression of interest, please visit Expressions of Interest - Noojee Resilience Art Project page.
