Baw Baw Shire Council secures $100,000 for Buln Buln Cricket Practice Net upgrades through Community Cricket Program 2021-22
Practice nets at Buln Buln Recreation Reserve will soon be upgraded after Baw Baw Shire Council successfully obtained a State Government grant to support the project.
The Buln Buln Cricket Practice Net upgrades will ensure the cricket facilities at the reserve are up to the sporting code and meet the growing needs of an active local sporting community. To fund the improvement works, Council has secured $100,000 through the Victorian Government's 2021-22 Community Cricket Program - Community Facilities stream, a program designed to address facility challenges across the State.
Careful planning of the upgrade project is critical to achieving success and will require a focus on understanding the capacity and suitability to accommodate further enhancements and for the better use of the participants
Increased opportunity for the participants
Wilson Pollock, President of the Buln Buln Cricket Club says the upgrades will "reinvigorate our club and allow us to welcome new players and families to train in the facilities at home". The total project is estimated to cost $186,000 and the balance of $86,000 funds contributed through Council's 22/23 Capital Works program.
As part of the upgrades, 2 additional practice nets will be installed at the facility, doubling the training space on offer and providing an increased opportunity for participation in the sport. "This sets up the Buln Buln Cricket Club for generations to come. I am absolutely rapt that I will get to watch this unfold as a proud President" says Mr Pollock.
This project forms one of several upgrades completed at the reserve in the past two years, including an upgrade to the change room pavilion and the installation of new 200 lux lighting and towers on the netball courts. The Buln Buln Cricket Practice Net upgrades are scheduled to begin within the 22/23 financial year.
Quality facility for the participants
Mayor Cr Michael Leaney said, "We are excited to have secured this funding to upgrade the cricket facilities at the Buln Buln Rec Reserve. The existing cricket nets are outdated, run down and impact the ability to attract new, and particularly junior participation in the sport. These upgrades will not only improve the quality of the facility, they will support further inclusion for existing and future participants."
