Bank Street intersection upgrade in Sale needs fast tracking by Andrews Labor government says Darren Chester and Martin Cameron
Brief:Darren Chester, criticises and urges for prompt action the state government for not completing intersection work in Traralgon, putting lives at risk.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says the state government is putting lives at risk because it hasn't finished work at one of Traralgon's most notorious intersections. Mr Chester secured more than $4 million from the previous federal government for the installation of traffic lights and intersection improvements but the work has stalled.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and Member for Morwell Martin Cameron are urging the state government to speed up works at the notorious Bank St intersection
Delayed road users benefits
Mr Chester said, "It was a huge win for the community to get the money for the intersection works but now we are waiting for the state government to upgrade the railway line signalling before we get the full benefits of this project."
"The community has waited too long for this project to be completed and lives are still being put at risk because the job isn't finished. It should be the highest priority to get the work done and provide a safer, better highway for all Gippslanders," he said.
Halted projects and disparity
Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron agrees stating "Like so many other projects across the region, the works at the Bank Street intersection have come to a grinding halt because of the state government's inaction and incompetence."
"If the state government can remove 70 level crossings in metropolitan Melbourne in the space of four years, surely it can extend the same courtesy to the people of the Latrobe Valley who have waited far too long for this single job to be finished," he said.
