Flood tax must be reversed by Andrews Labor government to better assist Victorian families in their recovery
As Victorian families pick up the pieces from floods that have ravaged the state, Labor has imposed a further tax on these embattled families.
Hardworking families and businesses who accessed grants through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements have discovered they will now have to pay tax on their payments. Leader of The Nationals, Peter Walsh, said, "This is a cruel blow to the families who have lost their homes, possessions and livelihoods in the floods and to be taxed on their loss is simply heartless."
Flooding affected Victorian families and businesses need assistance in recovery not additional tax to make the burden heavier than it is
Mr Walsh added, "On top of their recent budget where they slashed millions of dollars of regional grant funding, this tax shows Labor's complete disregard for regional communities. Labor must immediately reverse this savage tax on Victorian flood victims and offer them the support they need to assist with their recovery, not burden them with a larger tax bill next July."
