Latrobe City Council seeks community members for two new engagement groups: Positive Ageing and Disability Access and Inclusion. Expressions of Interest open until March 8, 2024.
Latrobe City Council is now seeking community members to join two new community engagement groups, The Positive Ageing Community Engagement Group and The Disability Access and Inclusion Community Engagement Group.
Each group holds four annual meetings, with additional engagements as agreed. Members need a police check, and no payment is provided. Apply by March 8, 2024, at council's website
Seeking community involvement
Positive Ageing Community Engagement Group
The Positive Ageing Community Engagement Group will enable community stakeholders to provide council with advice and guidance for the implementation of the Ageing Well Latrobe Action Plan 2022-2026 and associated actions.
Latrobe City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for 15 community members with lived or living experience of the needs and issues of older people. Council welcomes interest from individuals, family members, carers or community members with expertise, interest, or passion in advocating for, or with, older people.
Disability Access and Inclusion Engagement Group
The Disability Access and Inclusion Community Engagement Group will provide community members the opportunity to give council guidance for the development of the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2022-2025 and associated actions.
Latrobe City Council is seeking Expression of Interest for 10 community members with lived or living experience of the needs and issues of people with disability. Council welcomes interest from individuals living with a disability, their family members and carers, or community members with expertise and commitment to progressing the interests of people with additional needs.
Scheduled group meetings
Each group will have four meetings scheduled per year, with further meetings and engagement opportunities to occur in consultation with the Groups. Members must undertake a satisfactory National Police check. Council does not offer any remuneration for participation. Expressions of Interest are open until 8 March 2024.
To learn more and apply to either of these Groups, visit council's Have Your Say website or visit a Latrobe City Library in February to have a chat at a drop-in session. You can also call 1300 367 700 to learn more.
Community input encouraged
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe said, "Both Groups are important to ensure that the needs of people with a disability or older people are taken into consideration with the planning and delivery of council services, facilities and infrastructure."
"I encourage anyone who would like to shape how council can meet the needs of people with a disability or older people in Latrobe City now and into the future, to apply for either of these groups," said the Mayor.
Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said, "It is important that we hear from those who support people with a disability or older people, to inform council's decision making in these specialised areas. We have wonderful community members with lived experience that could greatly benefit both of these Community Engagement Groups and I encourage them to apply or encourage their family and friends to apply," said Councillor O'Callaghan.
