Summer fun at Latrobe City libraries with Return Yourself to the Library and 'Big Summer Read' programs
Encouraging children not to just go back to the library but also to borrow and read books.
The coolest place to be this Summer is the library. State-wide campaigns 'Return Yourself to the Library' and 'Big Summer Read' are encouraging people to rediscover what their library has to offer and spend the summer reading.
All library members who borrow an item between 1 December and 31 January 2022 will go into the draw to win a $50 book voucher
Return yourself campaign
Latrobe City will also borrow Trent 'Maxi' Maxwell from Bondi Rescue to once again visit libraries and
leisure centres for special presentations on fire and water safety from 24 to 26 January. Latrobe City Mayor Kellie O'Callaghan said libraries were a central hub for the community despite the challenge of COVID lockdowns and restrictions leading to branch closures and program postponement.
"Libraries are no longer just a place to borrow a book; They are for learning, connecting, socialising,
discovering and wondering. The Return Yourself campaign has a focus on reminding the community just what they can find at their local branch - a safe space, a creative place, a laugh and adventure." Cr O'Callaghan said.
From Bondi Beach to Latrobe City! Come and meet Firefighter, Lifeguard, Author, Director, Live Learn Survive, TV Personality (Bondi Rescue), Trent Maxwell or 'Lifeguard Maxi'!
Prize for the child with most book logs
Cr O'Callaghan also said, "We know from research that children's reading confidence and fluency can slip over the summer break, so the Big Summer Read is designed to inspire kids to keep reading by letting them log their books online or on paper, and achieve badges and rewards as they progress through their own challenges. There will also be a prize for the child who logs the most books over the summer holidays."
To encourage not just a return to the library, but to borrowing, Latrobe City is offering four $50 book
vouchers to randomly drawn library members who borrow any item from 1 December 2021 to 31 January 2022. The more you borrow, the greater your chances of winning. No entry form is required for the Return Yourself prize draw.
Join the library
Joining the library is free and can be done online or at your local branch. Pick up a Big Summer Read book log and bookmark from your local branch, or download Beanstack at plv.beanstack.org and register. Bookings for Live Learn Survive are essential. Book at your local library or Eventbrite.
